Oxlade-Chamberlain can be major Arsenal asset, says Man United legend
Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole talks up Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Andy Cole believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could emerge as a key player for Arsenal this season.
The England international scored the north London side’s winner in the 25th minute of their 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.
If Arsenal play to his strengths and he plays to his own strengths, he is a big plus for Arsenal
The 21-year-old was limited to 23 Premier League appearances last season after the youngster suffered a string of injury setbacks throughout the 2014/15 campaign.
But former Manchester United striker Cole urged Arsenal to play to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s strengths this season to see a big return from the former Southampton man.
“I’m really hoping Oxlade-Chamberlain comes through this season, because I really like him as a player,” Cole told Kicca.com.
“If Chamberlain could stay fit for the whole season instead of picking up those little niggles, he could really be a major asset for Arsenal this season.
“He can play numerous positions, in the centre and on the right. He is quick and strong. If Arsenal play to his strengths and he plays to his own strengths, he is a big plus for Arsenal.
“He’s got a good footballing brain for such a young man. He just needs to stay away from injuries.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored 13 goals in 117 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners since he moved to The Emirates from St Mary’s in 2011.
The Gunners forward has also netted four times in 20 games for the Three Lions since he made his debut under Roy Hodgson ahead of Euro 2012.
Arsenal face West Ham United in their season opener at The Emirates on Saturday.
