Paul Merson: Why Swansea will beat Man United on Sunday
Paul Merson feels that Swansea City are likely to have too much for Manchester United this weekend
Paul Merson believes that Swansea City are poised to cause an upset and beat Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils head to the Liberty Stadium this weekend looking to return to winning ways in the English top flight after being held to a goalless draw by Newcastle United at Old Trafford last weekend.
Louis van Gaal’s men emphatically booked their place in the Champions League group stage with a 7-1 aggregate win over Club Brugge this week.
However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson feels that Swansea are likely to edge Sunday’s encounter in Wales and is backing Garry Monk’s side to secure a 2-1 victory over the visitors.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Last week United couldn’t break Newcastle down. They fell over the line against Villa, fell over the line against Spurs. You can’t keep on doing that.
“Swansea keep the ball. I make them favourites and for some reason they are not, they’re big outsiders for this football match with the bookies. I make this heads or tails, and I’ll go with the heads of Swansea.

“Wayne Rooney got back on the scoresheet against Club Brugge, but I’m not a fan of his in the centre-forward role. He needs to play No 10, and he needs to touch the ball 50 times in a game, not 25 times.
“I want him facing the goal, picking players out and making chances. I’m his biggest fan, but not when he’s up front. ”
The Red Devils were pitted with PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg in Champions League Group B in Thursday’s draw.
United have seven points from their opening three Premier League games and are currently fourth in the top-flight table.
