Paul Merson: Why Tottenham will lose to Leicester
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson says Spurs are too reliant on England striker Harry Kane
Tottenham Hotspur rely on Harry Kane too much and will lose to Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday, according to Paul Merson.
Spurs make the trip north to Claudio Ranieri’s impressive Leicester side looking to register their first Premier League win of the season.
The north Londoners lost 1-0 to Manchester United on the opening game of the new season at Old Trafford before a 2-2 draw with Stoke City at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was forced to withdraw Kane due to tiredness midway through last weekend’s draw, leaving Tottenham toothless upfront.
And former Arsenal midfielder Merson isn’t impressed with the options at Pochettino’s disposal against a Leicester side that have beaten Sunderland and West Ham.
“Spurs played well at United on the opening day and were cruising against Stoke at 2-0 up but I think this is a hard game for them with the way Leicester have started the season,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“They are relying on Harry Kane too much and I think the pace and energy of Leicester will see them come out on top.”
Tottenham have been linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino in recent weeks, although the Baggies man has a price tag in excess of £20m.
