Pedro Rodriguez: Why I snubbed Man United and Man City
Pedro Rodriguez confirms that he turned down offers from Manchester United and Manchester City to join Chelsea
Pedro Rodriguez has revealed that he opted to join Chelsea ahead of both Manchester clubs because he was most “convinced” by the Blues’ offer.
The Spain international was heavily linked with a big-money transfer to Manchester United this summer, while City were also understood to be keeping tabs on the 28-year-old forward.
I felt a bit strange pulling on my new shirt
However, In what was deemed by many as a surprise move, Pedro opted to join Chelsea last week and was thrown straight into Premier League action in Sunday’s 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
Speaking at his farewell news conference with Barcelona on Monday, Pedro confirmed that he had received offers from both United and City, but insisted that Chelsea was his preferred destination.
Pedro is quoted as saying by AS: “I was very flattered by the interest from some of England’s biggest clubs – United, City and Chelsea. Chelsea were the quickest to get a deal sorted out and closed.
“There is a real chance of winning silverware at Chelsea and that was what convinced me and motivates me.”
He continued: “I never imagined that one day I would be leaving this club and I felt a bit strange pulling on my new shirt, and at the same time happy with how it all turned out.
“The hardest part is saying goodbye to my team mates and the people who work at the club. I’ve also felt the affection that the fans have for me. But as the boss said, I had to go.”
Pedro put in a man-of-the-match performance as he scored on his Premier League debut as Chelsea ran out 3-2 winners over West Brom on Sunday afternoon.
