Pep Guardiola criticises Man United signing Bastian Schweinsteiger
Bayern Munich midfielder Pep Guardiola wasn't impressed with Bastian Schweinsteiger's fitness levels in recent years
Pep Guardiola has criticised Bastian Schweinsteiger’s poor fitness levels during the Spaniard’s reign at Bayern Munich after the midfielder moved to Manchester United this summer.
The Red Devils managed to sign the World Cup winner in a £15m deal from the Bundesliga champions last month after the midfielder opted against signing a new deal at Allianz Arena.
Unfortunately, during the last three years he was never in good condition
Schweinsteiger has scored 13 goals in 64 appearances for Bayern in all competitions over the past three seasons, winning two Bundesliga titles under Guardiola’s management.
But the former Barcelona boss wasn’t impressed with Schweinsteiger’s fitness levels over the past couple of seasons.
“When he does not have injury problems, I am completely convinced he will do very well at Manchester United. He is a top, top player,” Guardiola is quoted as saying by Daily Telegraph.
“Unfortunately, during the last three years he was never in good condition. He is going to play really good there (at United). I really hope that is going to happen.”
Schweinsteiger scored 67 goals in 500 appearances for Bayern in a career spanning 13 years at Allianz Arena.
The Germany international won eight Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and six German Cups during that spell.
The United signing could make his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
