Chris Smalling has warned Liverpool to be ready for Manchester United backlash
Chris Smalling has taken to social media to warn Liverpool that Manchester United will be focused on returning to winning ways against the Reds after the international break.
United defender Smalling played the full 90 minutes as Louis van Gaal’s men slumped to a surprise 2-1 defeat by Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
The result left United fifth in the Premier League table and level with Arsenal and Liverpool on seven points after four games heading into the international break.
And Smalling believes that there is no better way for United to get their campaign back on track than with a victory over their fierce rivals at Old Trafford on 12 September.
Smalling shared the picture above on his personal Instagram account on Monday afternoon and wrote: “Gutted with the result yesterday but no better way to respond and show we’ve learnt from the mistakes than against Liverpool. @manchesterunited #mufc.”
Juan Mata converted Luke Shaw’s cross to put the visitors ahead in the 48th minute against Swansea.

But Garry Monk’s side soon fought back, with Andre Ayew heading home in the 61st minute, before Bafetimbi Gomis slid in a cool finish to inflict United’s first defeat of the season.
