Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson heaps praise on Philippe Coutinho after the midfielder's winner against Stoke
Jordan Henderson heaped praise on Philippe Coutinho after the Liverpool midfielder scored a winner in a 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Britannia Stadium.
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson had Stoke’s best chance to beat Simon Mignolet in the first half, whilst new Reds signing Christian Benteke had an effort blocked after half-time.
But Coutinho, who scored the club’s goal of the season against Southampton last year, fired a brilliant long-range strike past Jack Butland with four minutes remaining.
And Henderson, who was appointed Liverpool captain following Steven Gerrard’s departure earlier this summer, was delighted with three big points for the Reds.
Henderson wrote on his Instagram page following the victory: “Good start to the season. Brilliant from @phil.coutinho to get us the 3 points 🙌🏻 on to the next game”
Liverpool climbed up to fifth place in the Premier League table thanks to their slender win against the Potters after Arsenal and Chelsea dropped points.
