Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand talks to managerial great Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford
Rio Ferdinand and Sir Alex Ferguson may both have retired from football and no longer grace the Old Trafford turf, but it seems neither can stay away from the action at the Theatre of Dreams.
The two men, who spent nine years together as player and manager, were lured back to the famous stadium by United’s return to Champions League action after a year away from European competition.
Both were all smiles, with Ferdinand engaging the man he still calls “gaffer” in conversation before the match.
Ferdinand wrote on Instagram: “Good to see the gaffer before the match yesterday! #SirAlex”
Ferdinand made over 450 appearances for the Red Devils, as well as representing England 81 times in a career that spanned 19 years.
Sir Alex spent 27 years in the Old Trafford dugout, taking charge of 1500 United matches and adding 32 trophies to the club’s trophy room. He signed Ferdinand from Leeds in 2002 for a then British transfer record of around £30m.
