Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge trains as the Reds gear up for the visit of West Ham United on Saturday afternoon

Daniel Sturridge stepped up his training as the Liverpool striker trained away from his team-mates ahead of their clash against West Ham United.

The England international returned from United States earlier this month after having spent the summer working on his rehabilitation from a hip operation stateside.

The 25-year-old striker endured an injury-hit 2014/15 season after Sturridge was limited to just 12 Premier League appearances, scoring four times for the Merseyside outfit.

But in a welcome sight for Liverpool supporters, Sturridge was put through his paces at Melwood training ground as he worked on his match fitness ahead of his return.

Fenerbahce target Lucas Leiva trained with his team-mates despite talk of the midfielder making his final appearance for the Reds in a goalless draw with Arsenal on Monday night.

Mamadou Sakho was all smiles as the France international looked to impress Brendan Rodgers after losing his place to Dejan Lovren at the start of the season.

Liverpool face West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday after having collected seven points from a possible nine.
