Rio Ferdinand: Angel Di Maria will haunted by Man United failure
Rio Ferdinand says Angel Di Maria will be haunted by his failure to find form at Manchester United
Angel Di Maria will be haunted by his failed spell at Manchester United, according to Rio Ferdinand.
The Argentina international is on the verge of completing his big-money transfer to Paris Saint-Germain after a disappointing debut campaign in the Premier League with the Red Devils last season.
Di Maria notched up 11 assists but only managed to score four goals in 32 appearances for Louis van Gaal’s side in all competitions last term following his club-record transfer from Real Madrid last summer.
And with the winger now on the verge of signing for PSG, former United defender Ferdinand has admitted his disappointment at Di Maria’s failure to stay and fight to prove himself at Old Trafford.
Ferdinand is quoted as saying by ESPN FC: “He will now always have on his CV that he was a failure at Man United.
“As a professional, I wouldn’t want something like that on my record. If I could rectify it by staying and trying to prove myself, I would have done that.
“As a fan, I would have liked for him to stay there and prove he can perform for Man United. That is what we all wanted to see when the club paid so much for him last summer, but that isn’t happening, it seems.”
Manchester United, who finished fourth in Van Gaal’s first season in charge, kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
