Rio Ferdinand optimistic Man United can still fight for league title

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is refusing to discount the Red Devils in Premier League title race

Rio Ferdinand is optimistic that Manchester United can recover from their setback at Liberty Stadium and challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils looked to be heading towards a slender victory over Swansea City after Juan Mata put the visitors in front just after half-time in south Wales.

However, United conceded their first goal of the season when Andre Ayew headed past Sergio Romero, before Bafetimbi Gomis netted a 65th-minute winner.

Louis van Gaal’s side remain in fifth place but are five points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, but Ferdinand is refusing to discount his former employers.

Van Gaal has signed five players in the summer transfer window after he snapped up Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian, Memphis Depay and Romero.
