Rio Ferdinand: Why Arsenal have beaten Man United to best summer signing
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal recruit Petr Cech is the signing of the summer
Arsenal have landed the best signing of the summer transfer window despite the numerous arrivals at Liverpool and Manchester United, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Arsene Wenger snapped up experienced 33-year-old goalkeeper Petr Cech in an £11m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea last month.
He is the best signing in the league, he is that important
The Arsenal manager started with the Czech Republic international against the Blues in the Community Shield on Sunday and the move paid dividend as Arsenal were 1-0 winners.
Speaking to BT Sport, the former United defender highlighted the big impact that the four-time Premier League winner can have on the north London side over the course of the campaign.
“Arsenal have made the best signings, I would say that even if they had just signed Petr Cech,” Ferdinand said.
“He is the best signing in the league, he is that important.
“There is a huge responsibility in that position as a goalkeeper. With him in goal they have got a better chance.”
Liverpool have made eight signings in the summer transfer window, and Brendan Rodgers made Christian Benteke’s the club’s second-most expensive signing after his £32.5m move.
Louis van Gaal, meanwhile, has added five new players to his Red Devils squad, including World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay.
