Robbie Savage: Liverpool got good value for Christian Benteke
Christian Benteke has given Liverpool some good options up front, according to Robbie Savage
Robbie Savage believes Liverpool got good value for money after signing Christian Benteke in a £32.5m deal from Aston Villa.
The Reds paid their second-highest fee for the Belgium international last month as Brendan Rodgers reinvested the funds raised from the £49m sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City.
He is good, strong, and physical. Liverpool have some good options now
Benteke impressed on his first appearance for the Merseyside after he scored a sensational volley in a 2-1 win against Swindon Town on Sunday afternoon.
Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Savage believes Benteke’s arrival has given Liverpool manager Rodgers some good options up front.
“It is a good signing for Liverpool. £32.5m is good value for money these days,” Savage told The Sport Review,
“He is good, strong, and physical. Liverpool have some good options now.”
The Reds boss spent over £110m on new signings last summer but Rodgers’s recruits struggled to settle in their first season at Anfield, which contributed towards a sixth-place finish.
And BT Sport pundit Savage believes the Northern Irishman has learnt his lessons from last summer.
“Brendan Rodgers has bought players who can walk straight into the team [Milner, Clyne] and not players who may come good,” Savage added.
“Brendan Rodgers has realized that because he knows if he doesn’t have a good start, he’ll be under threat.”
Liverpool start their Premier League campaign with a clash against Stoke City at The Britannia on Sunday afternoon.
