Robbie Savage: Who Man United need to sign to win the title
Robbie Savage says Manchester United are in need of a new striker and defender to challenge for the title
Robbie Savage believes that Manchester United are in need of a new striker and centre-half if they are to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
Louis van Gaal has already bolster his Red Devils squad ahead of his second campaign in charge at Old Trafford, bringing in five new recruits including Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
I don’t think they’ll win the league if they play Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at centre-half
However, former Birmingham City midfielder Savage feels that United are unlikely to be able to be able to mount a serious assault on the title without bringing in more defensive and attacking reinforcements.
“They need a striker if Wayne Rooney gets injured and they need a centre-half,” Savage told The Sport Review. “I’m not sure Daley Blind at centre-half is the answer.
“I don’t think they’ll win the league if they play Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at centre-half all season.
“Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City [all] need a centre-half. I think before the transfer window closes, if people want to go and win it, they can sign the players to do it.”
