Swansea 2 Man United 1: Louis van Gaal reacts to surprise defeat
Louis van Gaal hits out at his Manchester United players for failing to adjust when Swansea changed their formation
Louis van Gaal admitted that Manchester United “could not cope” with Swansea’s changing formations after watching his side slump to a surprise 2-1 loss at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
After a goalless first half in South Wales, Juan Mata converted Luke Shaw’s cross to put the visitors ahead in the 48th minute.

However, Swansea soon fought back, with Andre Ayew heading home in the 61st minute, before Bafetimbi Gomis slid in a cool finish to inflict Manchester United’s first Premier League defeat of the season.
Manchester United enjoyed 64 per cent of the possession but were helpless in slipping to their first loss of the new campaign.
And Van Gaal admitted that he was disappointed with how the defeat unfolded at the Liberty Stadium.
Van Gaal said on Sky Sports: “The opponent changed their shape and we could not cope, that is not good.
“We lost in that five minutes and it is a pity because we controlled the game.
“You have to be compact, we were probably too dominant to have the sense to do that.
“We could have scored much more goals, that is not the problem. You need a little bit of luck.
“I have enjoyed our football but you need the result and we lost again. All the players were very motivated to beat them.”
Manchester United’s next Premier League game is a home clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford after the international break on Saturday 12 September.
