Thierry Henry: Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez will be player of the year

Thierry Henry is confident that Alexis Sanchez can help fire Arsenal to their first title since 2004

Thierry Henry is backing Alexis Sanchez to sparkle for Arsenal this season and be crowned the player of the year.

The Chile international enjoyed a superb debut campaign at the north London club last term following his transfer from Barcelona last summer as he helped Arsene Wenger’s men finish third and retain their FA Cup title.

Sanchez will be hoping to hit top form once again this season as Arsenal look to win their first Premier League title since Henry was still playing for the club back in 2004.

And the former Arsenal star believes that the 26-year-old can be the key man behind the north London side’s title bid in the 2015-16 campaign.

“I think the player of the season will be Alexis Sanchez,” said Henry, speaking at the launch of The Sun Dream Team in London on Tuesday night.

“I’m just saying it because he has already had an amazing season.

“If Arsenal want to win the league he has to have that type of season, and I think he can.”

The Chile international, who is understood to have cost Arsenal £35m, is set to miss the Gunners’ Premier League opener against West Ham United on 9 August due to his extended summer break following his involvement in the Copa America.
