Three players Man United could sign before transfer deadline day
Shona Duthie takes a look at three players Manchester United could target before next week's transfer deadline
Things have been hotting up with Manchester United’s approach to signing Sadio Mane from Southampton before deadline day. The Saints have insisted that the player is not for sale but this has not put off the Red Devils. Reports claim that a £20m transfer could be completed before Tuesday’s deadline and United fans would likely to be impressed with this signing. The 23-year-old scored the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history in two minutes 56 seconds against Aston Villa last season and that alone is enough to see why he would be a good player at Old Trafford. It was not until the Champions League play-off tie this week that United fully showed their potential, with Wayne Rooney scoring a hat-trick and ending the deadlock. Mane would certainly help them along in the Premier League and their bid for silverware this season.
With David De Gea being reported as wanting an exit from the club, United could use the Spaniard as a bargaining tool to get their star signing of the summer. It has been speculated that Bale has been a prime target for United and he would easily fit back into the Premier League. Bale could be on his way to Old Trafford if Real Madrid are willing to get De Gea at all costs. Louis van Gaal needs to reinforce his attacking options and Bale is said to be a prime target for the Dutchman. Van Gaal has taken a hard line with Real over De Gea and appears unwilling to let the star goalkeeper go if another player does not move the other way. It has been reported that United feel they have leverage with the situation and could use it to their advantage. But it remains to be seen if Bale will become a Red Devil before deadline day.
It was back at the start of the transfer window that United were reported as interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star IIkay Gundogan. It has now been suggested that United are ready to resurrect their interest in the player. Van Gaal is interested in luring the Germany international to Old Trafford despite the fact that the midfielder only signed a new contract with the Bundesliga giants recently. The 24-year-old is believed to be valued at around £25m by the Bundesliga side and it seems United are willing to pay this fee for the player. He remains as one of Van Gaal’s top targets as he looks to bolster his midfield options. United need to make another signing before the transfer window closes, and Gundogan would be a spectacular addition.
