Three players Tottenham could sign before deadline day
Shona Duthie takes a look at three potential targets for Tottenham Hotspur before Tuesday's transfer deadline
It has been speculated for weeks that Tottenham wish to sign the 22-year-old English starlet from West Brom. Spurs need another striker up front to help Harry Kane and Berahino could be the perfect man for the job. Recently, Berahino unfollowed the official West Brom Twitter account, hinting he wanted a move away. Spurs have already put two bids forward but they both have been rejected. Tony Pulis recently admitted that Berahino could easily leave the club before deadline day although they remain reluctant to sell. The club have rejected the player’s transfer request but he still appears determined to leave. He has scored 29 times in 83 appearances and could be a player for the future.
Spurs are thought to have been keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund man Lars Bender this summer. Spurs still lack a holding midfielder and they need to strengthen that area to be in with a chance of reaching the top-four spots. Bender could certainly slot into a Premier League team. However, Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel has stated he wishes to keep his prized asset at the club. Many clubs have sought out the Germany international but Tottenham remain the top club to attain his services. Spurs lack a leader, Harry Kane proved he could fill that role but he is still quite young. Bender is a leader and he has a wealth of experience in both the Champions League and contesting with Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title. Spurs would have to act fast if they could sign Bender before deadline day.
The Southampton midfielder has been a prime target for Spurs over the past few weeks and despite being left out of the Europa League clash on Thursday, the Lilywhites are still after their target man. The 24-year-old Kenyan is understood to be keen to work with old boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane. It could only be a matter of time before he becomes a Spurs player before deadline day. Spurs desperately need protection for their defenders and Wanyama fits this role. With Erik Lamela looking set to leave the club, Wanyama is a prime target and it has been reported that Spurs will make another approach for the player in the dying stages of the transfer window.
