Three reasons Arsenal should sign Karim Benzema ahead of Edinson Cavani

Three reasons why Karim Benzema would be a better signing than Edinson Cavani for Arsenal

Benzema has a better shot to goal ratio

Karim Benzema is one of the most-talented strikers in La Liga. He has scored 87 goals in 128 appearances since signing for Real Madrid in 2009. This is a player that Arsenal need to add to their squad. In order to challenge for the league title they need a striker who can produce 20 goals or more a season for them. Compare Benzema’s record to Edinson Cavani. The 28-year-old has managed 34 goals in 57 appearances. While this stat is impressive, Benzema has a certain presence in the box that is a problem for many defenders. Cavani has struggled in recent games at PSG where Benzema has continued his form for Los Blancos. Arsene Wenger would be wise to sign Benzema as it could mean that Arsenal would become a certain contender for the Premier League title.

Individual and club honours

With Real Madrid honours kept on coming for Benzema. He has won the Champions League, La Liga, Uefa Super Cup and the Copa del Rey twice. With experience like this, it could only help Arsenal progress further for the season ahead. Not to mention when he played for Lyon, Benzema racked up a number of individual honours such as Ligue 1 top goal-scorer and also won Ligue 1 player of the year. He also been named the French player of the year on three occasions, most recently in 2014. Recognition like this can only give Benzema confidence when playing on the pitch and that is what Arsenal needs. Cavani has won Ligue 1 twice and the Copa America in 2011. He is only a year older than the Frenchmen, but recently he has been out-of-favour at PSG. Benzema knows what it takes to win the league and Champions League. He could certainly take his wisdom and pair up with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil and make Arsenal that slightly stronger team than they already are.

Benzema is a more prolific striker

Unfortunately for Cavani, he has been out-of-form for some time at PSG. He has been struggling with link-up play with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it has been well noted by the manger and the fans. It seems Cavani does want an exit from the Parc des Princes, however, Benzema suits Arsenal’s formation compared to Cavani. Benzema is used to the solo striker role as Real play him in this position. Cavani may provide Arsenal with some more goals, but what Arsenal needs is goals that can see that challenge for the Premier Legaue title. Also, Benzema has played with fellow countryman Olivier Giroud for the French national team meaning he could easily slot into the team. Benzema can score from headers, create space in the box and set panic among other teams when he is given time on the ball. The Gunners need someone who did the same as Thierry Henry did during their Invincible season. Benzema could be the answer they are looking for.
