Three reasons Sadio Mane would be a good Man United signing
Shona Duthie takes a look at three reasons Sadio Mane would be a good Man United signing
They need a player who can score goals
Sadio Mane made 32 appearances last season, scoring 10 goals. He also has the record for scoring the fasted Premier League hat-trick in the division’s 22-year history. He netted three goals in two minutes and 56 seconds in a 6-1 win against Aston Villa. Mane scored goals for Southampton when they needed it most. He netted a goal against Arsenal on Boxing Day and has continued to impress manager Ronald Koeman. Manchester United has improved their defensive line with the addition of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, they now need to turn their attention to sign a player that can score them goals. While they have won both games in the Premier League 1-0, they have come to face criticism that they are not convincing enough to win the league. Adding a player like Mane to the mix will boast their chances for silverware.
He will vastly improve their forward line
Memphis Depay has already shown United fans what he is capable of for the season ahead. Linking up play with Mane can only improve their forward line vastly. Mane enjoyed at outstanding campaign last season and his pace, trickery and adaptability has caught the eye of several clubs. United will need to act fast if they want their man as Southampton are keen for the player to stay at St Mary’s. Mane, at 23, is a great value for United as he could be one for the present and the future. It is clear that Mane can improve their forward line and make United a much stronger team all round.
Could make the difference for their title hopes
Mane has an instinctive determination on the pitch. Wayne Rooney at the moment is United’s only option for upfront and has been off form as of late. Mane has a solid goal-scoring record. Mane hit 45 goals in just 87 games at Red Bull Salzburg, which is quite impressive. He has also scored six foals in 22 caps for his country. Not to mention Mane completed more take-ons than any other Southampton player last season and it had a success rate of 58%. He also created 40 chances for his teammates and created 60 shots for himself. Mane is very fast and likes to run at defenders and it has already been noted that this has been a problem for other Premier League teams. If Manchester United managed to prise away Mane from Southampton as they already have done with Luke Shaw and Morgan Schneiderlin, United could be won to watch for the Premier League title.
