Louis van Gaal is one of football’s greatest managers with top-flight titles in three domestic leagues (Netherlands, Germany, and Spain), a Champions League winner’s medal and a third-place World Cup finish with the Netherlands in 2014. The former Barcelona boss has the pedigree and the tradition to build Manchester United into a force again. Van Gaal’s experience and expertise should appeal to a player of Pedro’s quality.
What has always been a trademark of Pedro’s game is his willingness to obey orders from the coach. He’s not the most talented, but he’s a hard worker who always leaves it all on the pitch. With Angel Di Maria having recently departed Old Trafford, Pedro will play alongside Memphis Depay and Wanye Rooney in the United attack should he make the switch. Manager Van Gaal is in need of added firepower in attack, and Pedro could be a vital addition to his squad in the club’s bid for Premier League glory.
With a variety of formations last season, Van Gaal believes the three-pronged attack – last used by United when Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez helped secure a Premier League and Champions League double in 2008 – offers the flexibility and fluidity required to challenge in the league and in Europe. But with the winger determined to escape at Barcelona to secure regular football elsewhere, it is understood that Van Gaal has made it clear that he would be part of an attacking three with Rooney and summer signing Depay after choosing to adopt a 4- 3-3 formation this season.
