Three signings Chelsea should make before transfer window shuts
Shona Duthie suggest three signings Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho must make before the transfer window shuts
Jose Mourinho needs to complete som more business in this transfer window before it shuts on 1 September. After left-back Filipe Luis was sold back to Atletico Madrid after just one season at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho has been on the hunt for a replacement. While it is certain that no-one will dislodge Cesar Azpilicueta, the Premier League champions need reinforcements. Baba Rahman has been widely touted to make the transfer to The Bridge. He is certainly a player worthy of the Chelsea shirt. Former manager Avram Grant, who coaches Ghana, first alerted them of his skills. The 21-year old played a major part in the squad that reached the final of the Africa Cup of Nations. Mourinho needs to act fast if he wants this player as other clubs have expressed an interest in him. Rahman has enjoyed a rise in form and was nominated as the best left-back in his first season in the Bundesliga for Augsburg. It has been reported that Chelsea have put in a bid of £17.5m for the Ghana international.
With Oscar on the radar of Juventus, Chelsea may need to sign another attacking midfielder. Jose Callejon could be the exact man for the job, as he impressed season-by-season at Napoli. The 28-year-old is reportedly keen to leave Napoli and progress even further at another club and he wishes to play Champions League football. He has won the La Liga with Real Madrid and the Coppa Italia with Napoli. He certainly has experience and could easily slot into the Chelsea team. Mourinho may need to act fast as Arsenal are reportedly interested in the Spanish international. The Blues need a winger who can score goals as well as create opportunities for team-mates. The player’s value is estimated to be £16m and he could secure a move to Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho has been craving for home grown talent since the start of the summer transfer window. According to speculation, he tried to lure Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain or Kieran Gibbs to Chelsea in the Petr Cech deal with Arsenal, which was rejected by their London rivals. He has now focused his attention on John Stones. With two bids rejected by Everton, a third bid is likely to take place. Mourinho is adamant he is going to get his man and he will need to secure this signing before the window shuts. Stones has been on many clubs’s radars and it may be only a matter of time before he exits Goodison Park. It is understood that a fee in the region of £34m could be sufficient.
