Tottenham transfers: Saido Berahino not the answer for Spurs, says Danny Mills
Former Man City defender Danny Mills doesn't believe Saido Berahino is the answer for Tottenham Hotspur
Saido Berahino isn’t the answer to Tottenham Hotspur’s striker crisis, says Danny Mills.
The north London side are reportedly close to signing the West Bromwich Albion striker in a deal worth a speculated £15m.
Berahino, who failed to score against Manchester City and Watford in West Brom’s opening games of the season, netted 14 times in 38 Premier League games.
And former Manchester City midfielder Mills believes Berahino is more like an attacking midfielder than a prolific centre-forward.
“He isn’t an out-and-out striker. He is more of a wide player,” Mills told BBC Sport.
“Is he realistically going to get you 20 or 25 goals-a-season? I don’t think so. If he gets 15, you’d says he has had a really good season.
“He is a Lamela type player.”
The north London side were heavily reliant on England international Harry Kane last season after the PFA young player of the year scored 21 of Tottenham’s 58 goals in the Premier League.
Tottenham drew 2-2 with Stoke City at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon after Mauricio Pochettino’s side squandered a 2-0 lead in north London.
Spurs lost 1-0 to Manchester United on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
