Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Villa trip
Louis van Gaal says Manchester United have no fresh injury concerns ahead of their trip to Aston Villa
Manchester United have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Friday night’s trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League, Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
Speaking to MUTV at Carrington on Thursday afternoon, the Dutchman revealed that Phil Jones remains United’s only absentee ahead of the clash at Villa Park, while Marcos Rojo is still lacking match sharpness after his extended summer holiday.
“It’s still the same, no injuries – only illness for Phil Jones,” Van Gaal told MUTV. “It’s very sad, of course, but we’ll have to wait and see how that shall recover.
“Rojo needs more time because he was the last one who came in. He is training double sessions sometimes. He is doing well but he needs more.”
Van Gaal also appeared to hint that Sergio Romero would keep his place in goal as the speculation surrounding David De Gea’s future continues.
He continued: “There’s no difference. The transfer period is still open and he [De Gea] has still the same problem.”
United head to Villa Park looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League following their opening day victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
A win for Van Gaal’s men against Villa would hoist them up to the top of the table ahead of the full round of top-flight fixtures this weekend.
United take on Club Bruges for a place in the Champions League group stage later this month.
