Watch Gary Neville tear into Chelsea players after Crystal Palace defeat
Gary Neville has not been impressed by what he's seen from the Blues...
Gary Neville claimed that Chelsea’s players are in need of a “slap around the face” following their poor start to the Premier League season.
Jose Mourinho’s men slumped to their second defeat of the new campaign as they lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge to leave the defending champions eight points behind early pace-setters Manchester City after just four games.
The west London club have picked up just four points from their opening four matches to leave them languishing in 13th place in the Premier League table.
And former Manchester United defender Neville says that he has been shocked by the Blues’ stuttering start after they coasted to the top-flight title last season.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon, ex-England defender Neville said: “I said it before but they need to give themselves a slap round the face.
“Mourinho needs to sort them out because we talked about Manchester City last season when they were champions that they couldn’t get themselves up for it again – that’s inexcusable to me.
“The idea that your desire wilts, waves and moves like a rollercoaster – it cannot happen.
“You have your summer off, you come back and you go again. You literally do have to put in the same amount of effort.
“What makes you think that because you’ve won the Championship that you can relax and do things differently?”
Chelsea return to Premier League action when they travel to Everton in the Premier League on 12 September, looking to return to winning ways after the international break.
