Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Palace test
Arsene Wenger says that Danny Welbeck is still at least three weeks away from being fit to return for Arsenal
Danny Welbeck is at least three weeks away from being fit to feature for Arsenal this season, Arsene Wenger confirmed on Friday morning.
The England international has not featured for the north London club since last season after struggling with a knee problem during the closing stages of the 2014-15 campaign.
Wenger revealed that Welbeck has not yet returned to full training following his lay-off.
The Arsenal manager told a news conference at the Gunners’ London Colney training ground on Friday morning: “Welbeck is not close because he has not started full training, so I would say at least three weeks from today.”
Wenger also confirmed that midfielder Jack Wilshere is progressing well as he bids to return to full fitness after suffering a minor leg fracture in training earlier this month.
“Jack is back in training but I thought at the start it will be six to eight weeks but it could be three to four, so that is positive news,” said Wenger.
And the Gunners boss, whose side travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday looking to return to winning ways after their shock defeat by West Ham last weekend, confirmed that Alexis Sanchez is fit and available to start the game.
He added: “Alexis is fit and did good work during the week and is available for selection.”
