Alan Shearer issues warning for Man United signing Anthony Martial
England and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer says Anthony Martial will need to hit ground running at Manchester United
Alan Shearer has warned Manchester United signing Anthony Martial that he will need to hit the ground running in the Premier League.
The Red Devils signed the 19-year-old France international in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side Monaco on transfer deadline day last Tuesday.
Yes he is only 19 and yes it might be unfair, but he needs to hit the ground running, have no doubts about that
Martial was Louis van Gaal’s most-expensive signing of the summer after the United manager snapped up seven new players.
Former England and Newcastle United striker Shearer believes Martial will have little time to settle at Old Trafford.
“In comes a relatively untried teenager in Anthony Martial upon whom there is now a huge expectation after a deal which will eventually be worth £57.6million,” Shearer told The Sun.
“Yes he is only 19 and yes it might be unfair, but he needs to hit the ground running, have no doubts about that.
“Manchester United can’t wait any longer.”
Martial won his first France cap in a 1-0 victory over Portugal in Lisbon on Friday night after he came on as a second-half substitution.
The teenager could make his United debut in their clash against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
The United signing scored 11 goals in 52 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon and Monaco over the past two seasons.
