Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: I’m learning from Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez

The Arsenal midfielder explains why Alexis Sanchez is a source of inspiration

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says he is learning from Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez.

The Chile international ended his goalless start to the Premier League campaign with a brilliant hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sanchez scored 16 goals in 35 games in the English top-flight for the north London side in his first Premier League campaign following a £35m move to Arsenal from Barcelona last summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, meanwhile, has only managed to find the net just four times in 47 games in all competitions over the past two seasons.

And the England international explained why the South American is a source of inspiration for Oxlade-Chamberlain and his Arsenal team-mates.

“For someone like me to look at how many goals he scored last year makes it hard for me not to look at him and learn from him,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Arsenal’s pre-match media conference ahead of their clash against Olympiacos.

“It’s his everyday mannerisms around the training ground, how he trains, his performances, how he scores goals, how he plays and how he defends from up front.

“These are all things that we can all learn, that everyone who watches football could learn from. I’ve definitely put myself in the bracket of somebody who learns from him every day.

“He’s very passionate, very upbeat and is a massive character in the team. For someone that doesn’t have amazing English, he manages to communicate so well to all of us and keep the dressing room upbeat.”

Arsenal lost 2-1 to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening Champions League group-stage fixture earlier this month.

The Gunners and Olympiacos are in the same group for the fourth time in seven seasons, having also been drawn together in 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2012/13. Each of the six preceding games has been won by the home team.
