Anthony Martial’s agent hits back at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
Anthony Martial's agent responds to Arsene Wenger's claims that his client is more of a winger than a striker
Anthony Martial’s agent has hit out at Arsene Wenger over the Arsenal manager’s apparent reluctance to sign the teenager this summer.
The Gunners boss recently revealed that he had been keeping tabs on the 19-year-old’s progress before his big-money transfer from Monaco to Manchester United on deadline day earlier this month.
Wenger is thought to have turned down the opportunity to sign the teenager because he viewed him primarily as a winger and felt that Arsenal did not need further cover in that area.
Martial has been deployed as a striker since his transfer to Old Trafford and has netted four goals in his first four games for Louis van Gaal’s men.
Now, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley has reacted to Wenger’s remarks about his client.
Lamboley told RMC Sport: “Anthony is a true modern centre-forward who can play a part.
“I am surprised by the analysis of Arsene Wenger, who has apparently been following him since he was a teenager.
“If the analysis Arsene Wenger has made is in order to justify not having signed Anthony, I accept he is a winger. But in football, there are those who follow players and those who buy them.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to Leicester City on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners wrapped up a 2-1 League Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
