Arsenal starlet reveals Man United snub
Isaac Hayden reveals he turned down the opportunity to join Manchester United before signing for Arsenal
Isaac Hayden has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to join Manchester United before opting to move to Arsenal.
The 20-year-old defender signed for the Arsenal youth team from Southend in 2004 and says he had the opportunity to move to Old Trafford before opting to join the north London side.
And the defender, who is on loan at Hull City this season and has made two first-team appearances for the Gunners, insists that it was an easy decision to join Arsenal ahead of United, despite the Red Devils’ interest in the player as a teenager.
Hayden is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “As soon as I got the nod, and the choice between Manchester United and Arsenal, it was an easy decision.
“I said ‘Drive me there now!’ as soon as I knew they were interested. It felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“Manchester United were keen but when you’re 13 and living in London with your parents, it was a no-brainer.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action when they host Stoke City at Emirates Stadium next weekend looking to make it back-to-back wins in the top flight.
Arsene Wenger’s men, who beat Newcastle United 1-0 in their most recent outing, are currently sixth after taking seven points from their opening four games.
