Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger responds to Jose Mourinho comments
Arsene Wenger refuses to be drawn into a fresh war of words with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho
Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is ignoring Jose Mourinho’s recent comments about him and says he is solely focused on Arsenal’s title challenge.
The pair’s frosty relationship was once again thrown into the spotlight last weekend when Arsenal were reduced to nine men during their 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista was sent off for kicking out at Diego Costa, although the red card was overturned on appeal.
And Mourinho was angered when Costa was retrospectively handed a three-game suspension by the FA after a clash with Laurent Koscielny.
Mourinho aimed fire at Wenger over the weekend, claiming that he is the only Premier League manager who is not under pressure and is treated like a “king”.
However, Wenger has chosen to ignore the Portuguese coach’s latest jibe and says he is only focused on helping Arsenal win games.
Speaking after his side’s 5-2 win over Leicester on Saturday, Wenger told his post-match news conference: “No, I feel I have just done my job with the team and for our fans. That’s what you want.
“Honestly I’m not too much concerned about the other results. Thirty years in football now, and I know that what is important is to play football well.”
