Cesc Fabregas: Chelsea are not a bunch of babies
Cesc Fabregas hits back at Chelsea's critics after their slow start to the new season
Cesc Fabregas has hit out at Chelsea’s critics, insisting that the Blues’ stuttering start to the season is not down to complacency.
The west London side have managed to win just two of their opening seven Premier League games to leave them in 15th place in the table.
Fabregas helped Jose Mourinho’s men win the title as well as the League Cup in his first season at Stamford Bridge after joining from Barcelona last summer.
Much has been made of Chelsea’s slow start to the new campaign, but Fabregas is confident that the west London side will get things right in the coming weeks.
Fabregas told a news conference on Monday afternoon: “It’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends. You have to compete to the maximum every single game.
“Last season wasn’t easy. It might have looked like it, but it wasn’t. This isn’t complacency. The manager wouldn’t allow it.
“We are not babies. We have to start performing. There’s no reason we can’t win the league again. We can do better. We will do better. We have to start from now.”
Chelsea are gearing up for their Champions League clash with FC Porto on Tuesday night.
The Blues have had the upper hand against Porto in recent seasons, with four victories in the previous six encounters. The west Londoners have won each of the last three – all by a single goal.
