Chelsea defender admits Diego Costa ‘cheats’ after Arsenal win

Chelsea striker Diego Costa is branded a cheat by his own team-mate Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma has admitted that Diego Costa “cheats a lot” after the striker’s fiery performance in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Brazilian forward clashed with Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista before the latter was sent off for kicking out at the Chelsea forward late in the first half in west London.

Costa’s performance has been the subject of much scrutiny following Saturday lunchtime’s London derby.

And Zouma, who scored Chelsea’s opener from a Cesc Fabregas free-kick early in the second half against the Gunners, has admitted that “cheating” is part of Costa’s natural game.

Zouma is quoted as saying by TEAMtalk: “No, we’re not surprised because we know Diego. Everyone knows Diego and this guy likes to cheat a lot and put the opponent out of his game.

“That happened in the game but he’s a really nice guy. We’re proud to have him, like the other players, and we’re happy to win this.”

Saturday’s result was Chelsea’s second Premier League win of the season and left Jose Mourinho’s men in 15th place in the table on seven points.

The Blues had only taken four points from their opening five Premier League games after a stuttering start to their title defence.
