Chelsea will be embarrassed by Mourinho’s swipe at Wenger, says ex-Liverpool man
Mark Lawrenson has not been impressed by Jose Mourinho's recent comments about Arsene Wenger
Mark Lawrenson believes that Chelsea’s players should be embarrassed about Jose Mourinho’s fresh war of words with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
Mourinho’s frosty relationship with Wenger was once again thrown into the spotlight after the Blues’ 2-0 win over the Gunners at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League earlier this month.
The Portuguese coach accused Wenger of “moaning” in the wake of the game, in which his Arsenal side were reduced to nine men.
Mourinho then followed up those comments by claiming that Wenger is the only top-flight manager who is not under pressure, saying that the Frenchman is treated like a “king” at Emirates Stadium.
And former Liverpool star Lawrenson believes that Mourinho should focus on improving his Chelsea side’s form rather than commenting on other managers.
Lawrenson said on BBC Sport: “I saw his interview about Wenger last week.
“I just want to say to him, ‘just go and manage’. He is such a good manager; forget about all the other stuff.
“I really get that [the siege mentality] but not every single week. That stuff he said about Wenger, if I was a Chelsea player I would be embarrassed.”
Chelsea are 15th in the Premier League table and take on FC Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night after their 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.
