Chris Smalling runs rule over Man United signing
The Manchester United centre-half is impressed with Matteo Darmian's impact
Chris Smalling says Matteo Darmian has already improved Manchester United.
The Italy international has been ever present in Louis van Gaal’s side this season since his £12.5m move to Old Trafford from Serie A side Torino in the summer transfer window.
Darmian has already made seven Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this term, with only Smalling, Juan Mata and Daley Blind racking up more top-flight minutes.
And United centre-half Smalling is impressed with the 25-year-old full-back’s impact at Old Trafford following his summer move.
“He has come into the club and he hasn’t needed any time to settle in. He has literally hit the ground running and that is full credit to him, to be able to adjust to a different league and a different culture. He has improved the team in such a short space of time,” Smalling told United Review.
United moved to the top of the Premier League table after a 3-0 win against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Netherlands international Memphis Depay broke the deadlock before United captain Wayne Rooney and Mata sealed three points.
Van Gaal’s men face Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in their second Champions League group-stage fixture at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
