David De Gea ‘proud’ to captain Man United after League Cup win
The Manchester United goalkeeper briefly skippered Red Devils against Ipswich Town
David De Gea has spoken of his pride after donning the Manchester United captain’s armband in their 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.
The shot stopper was handed the responsibility for the final nine minutes after club captain Wayne Rooney was replaced by Memphis Depay in the League Cup clash.
It marked a big U-turn for De Gea after having signed a five-year deal with the 20-time English champions weeks after he was close to joining Real Madrid.
The Spain international was clearly honoured to captain United for the final nine minutes, whilst he urged Louis van Gaal’s side to keep working hard.

Rooney broke the deadlock against Ipswich before Andreas Pereira scored his first United goal in the second half.
£36m summer signing Anthony Martial sealed their progress into the fourth round with his fourth goal in four games in all competitions following his move earlier this month.
