David De Gea thanks Manchester United fans for their support after he signing a new contract on Friday
David De Gea has thanked Manchester United’s fans for their support after the goalkeeper put pen to paper on a new contract on Friday.
The Spanish goalkeeper signed a new four-year deal with the Red Devils to put an end to the speculation surrounding his future as he committed his future to the Old Trafford club.
De Gea was on the verge of securing a summer move to Real Madrid but the deal fell through on transfer deadline day after the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time.
However, the 24-year-old insists that he is now focused on helping Manchester United in the coming seasons and sent a message of thanks to the club’s supporters.
De Gea told MUTV: “I feel really well, I would like to say thank you to the fans for their support. They are always behind the team, behind the club, and that’s amazing.
“It was a different summer, it’s true. But I kept my focus, kept calm and kept doing my hard work. I want to say thank you to my team-mates as well.
“I’ve trained really hard and I played with my national team, of course, so I feel ready and 100 per cent fit.
“It’s a perfect moment to come back at Old Trafford with the fans against Liverpool. It’s a special game for us, for the fans, for the world and, of course, we need to win. We need three points for the fans.
“We are Manchester United – we are going to try to win everything.”
De Gea not yet featured for United this season but could make his first appearance of the new campaign when the Red Devils host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
