Diego Costa: Why it’s the perfect time for Chelsea to play Arsenal

Diego Costa says victory over Arsenal on Saturday would kick-start Chelsea's season

Diego Costa believes that victory over Arsenal would kick-start Chelsea’s season as the Blues aim to get their Premier League title defence back on track.

The west London side have made a stuttering start to the top-flight campaign after their title-winning season last term.

Chelsea have picked up just four points from a possible 15 and slumped to a 3-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park in their most recent Premier League outing.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men returned to winning ways with a 4-0 Champions League win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Arsenal, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 defeat by Dinamo Zagreb in their own European opener this week.

And Chelsea striker Costa, who scored in the win over Maccabi, believes that victory over Arsenal could provide a building block for a successful season.

Costa is quoted as saying by Goal: “There’s nothing better than a game against Arsenal to win and fix this situation.

“If we win then we’ll take a step forward in terms of confidence and points; we know about the importance of the game.

“We have to remain calm. We have enough quality to fix the situation.”

Chelsea head into Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off 11 points behind early Premier League leaders Manchester City.
