Erik Lamela issues Tottenham rallying cry ahead of Arsenal clash
The Tottenham midfielder says Spurs need to continue momentum
Erik Lamela says Tottenham Hotspur need to beat Arsenal in the League Cup to continue their recent momentum.
The north London rivals meet in the third round of the competition at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night days after Tottenham record their first home Premier League win of the season.
Son Heung-min scored a 68th-minute winner in a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, whilst Arsenal lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the first game of the Premier League weekend.
And Tottenham record-signing Lamela underlined the importance of winning the first north London derby of the season.
“We need to win the derby,” Lamela told Tottenham’s website.
“For me it’s not about playing well or playing badly, we just need to make sure we win and continue with our momentum.”
Kurt Zouma and Oscar scored in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners are in fifth place in the Premier League table following their second defeat of the campaign.
Tottenham, meanwhile, climbed up to ninth place ahead of their trip to leaders Manchester City next Saturday.
