Fantasy Football: Adam Lallana, Theo Walcott and more
Here are the best picks for your Fantasy Football team ahead of this weekend's Premier League fixtures
Darren Randolph (£4.5m) A bit of the punt to kick off the Fantasy Football column this week. Irishman Darren Randolph has kept back-to-back clean sheets since deputising for suspended Adrian. Have his performances warranted a place ahead of the returning Spanish goalkeeper? He made four saves last week, and Randolph is excellent value at £4.5m. West Ham face Man City – can they pull off another shock this weekend?
Richie De Laet (£4.5m) The former Manchester United defender has been the star of the Leicester City defence so far. The 26-year-old full-back scored in a 3-2 comeback against Aston Villa last weekend. The Foxes make the trip to Stoke on Saturday, and Claudio Ranieri’s men must fancy their chances of keeping a clean sheet against a Potters side that have scored just once in three games. De Laet won eight tackles, two blocks, two clearances and vitally, scored his first goal of the season last week. He is a must at £4.5m.
Daryl Janmaat (£4.9m) The Dutch defender hasn’t got any Fantasy Football points to his name this season. However, expected the Newcastle defender to change this on Saturday afternoon. Janmaat was among the best-performing defenders in the Premier League last weekend. Steve McClaren’s side should keep a shut-out against a Watford side that has scored three goals in five games.
Adam Lallana (£7.3m) The England midfielder made a return to action on Thursday night as the 27-year-old scored in a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux in the Europa League. Liverpool welcome Norwich City to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, and it is the kind of game that Lallana can thrive in. The former Southampton captain is a good option at £7.3m, which is cheaper than the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
Rihad Mahrez (£6.3m) If you don’t have Rihad Mahrez is in your Fantasy Football side, then this is the weekend to bring in the Leicester playmaker. He has been the star of the Premier League so far this season. The 24-year-old has 47 points after five games, which is comfortably more than any other midfielder/striker in the Premier League. Mahrez made two assists, completed 12 dribbles and attempted five crosses against Villa last weekend. In short, he is a constant pest.
Theo Walcott (£8.3m) The Arsenal forward is hitting form just in time for Arsenal’s trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend. Walcott opened his account for the season in a 2-0 victory over Stoke City last weekend. His shot accuracy of 62.5 per cent suggests the England forward is a good bet to add more Fantasy Football points to his tally. He’ll be a threat on the counter against a slow Chelsea defence.
Christian Benteke (£8.5m) The Belgium international was rested for Liverpool’s trip to Bordeaux mid-week. The 24-year-old striker has scored two goals in five Premier League games, including an overhead kick at Old Trafford last weekend. With Arsenal facing Chelsea, and Manchester United making the trip to Southampton, Benteke is the best bet among the big-name strikers aside from Sergio Aguero. However, the towering striker is almost £4m cheaper.
After Mahrez’s outstanding performance last weekend, the Leicester man could be a good shout. Otherwise, Benteke or Aguero have the opportunity to add more goals to their season tallies.
