David Seaman admits Francis Coquelin isn't quite as intimidating as Patrick Vieira
Francis Coquelin is similar to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, according to David Seaman.
The France Under-21 international has emerged as a key part of Arsene Wenger’s side since December 2014 after he broke into the Arsenal first-team.
He’s perfect for the role he has to play, a holding midfielder who is a bit like Patrick Vieira but not quite as intimidating as Patrick was
The Gunners manager was urged to sign a defensive midfielder in the summer transfer window, but touted target Morgan Schneiderlin joined Manchester United.
While Seaman sees similarities between Coquelin and Vieira, the former Arsenal goalkeeper admitted his old team-mates was more intimidating than the 24-year-old defensive midfielder.
“Francis Coquelin has developed into a very important player,” Seaman told Sky Sports.
“He’s perfect for the role he has to play, a holding midfielder who is a bit like Patrick Vieira but not quite as intimidating as Patrick was. My worry is if he gets injured.
“They need that type of player and they haven’t got two of those at the club at the moment.
“The midfield, attacking-wise, is great but the midfield defensive-wise has a problem if Coquelin gets injured. With the way he plays though, there’s every chance.”
