Gary Lineker challenges Tottenham star to break Wayne Rooney’s record
England and Tottenham legend Gary Lineker hints Spurs striker Harry Kane could break Wayne Rooney's new England record
Gary Lineker has challenged Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to break Wayne Rooney’s new England goal record.
Kane broke the deadlock against Switzerland at Wembley before Rooney surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s 49th goal with his 50th strike from the penalty spot in the 84th minute at Wembley.
The Spurs striker has scored three goals in his four appearances for the England national team after he netted his debut goal in a victory over Lithuania in Euro 2016 qualifying last year.
And Tottenham legend Lineker took to Twitter to congratulate Rooney on his latest milestone, before the Match Of The Day host suggested that Kane could break the England skipper’s record.

Kane is still waiting for his first goal of the Premier League season after having drawn a blank against Manchester United, Leicester, Stoke City and Everton.
The Spurs man scored 31 times in 51 games in all competitions for the north London side last season.
The Spurs man was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
