Gary Neville: Why Man United star Anthony Martial is my player of the month
The Man United legend says Anthony Martial has already had big impact at Old Trafford
Gary Neville has named Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as his Premier League player of the month.
The 19-year-old has scored four goals in four games in all competitions for the Red Devils following his £36m move to Old Trafford from Ligue 1 side Monaco on transfer deadline day.
He’s settled in well given the pressure of his price tag, and adapting to this league in the way he has is a huge achievement
Martial scored against United’s bitter rivals Liverpool on his debut before he marked his first start for the Red Devils with a brace in a 3-2 victory over Southampton.
And former United defender Neville believes Martial’s immediate impact at the 20-time English champions makes the French teenager the Premier League’s undisputed player of the month.
Neville wrote on BreatheSport: “Manchester United are top of the table; an unimaginable position even for United fans a few weeks ago, and Martial’s influence on that means that he just edges it.
“He’s settled in well given the pressure of his price tag, and adapting to this league in the way he has is a huge achievement.
“We knew that he was quick and could attack space and defenders, but he has proven already, with his strength and physicality, that he can lead the line well on his own. He has enjoyed an excellent start to his United and Premier League career.”
Martial became the most-expensive teenager in Europe after his £36m move to the Red Devils on transfer deadline day.
United welcome Bundesliga side Wolfsburg to old Trafford in their next Champions League group-stage fixture.
