Jamie Carragher: Danny Ings making ‘massive difference to Liverpool
The Liverpool legend reckons Danny Ings could keep Christian Benteke out of Reds side
Jamie Carragher says Danny Ings is making a massive difference to the Liverpool side.
The England Under-21 international has enjoyed a run in the Reds team following Christian Benteke’s recent injury setback.
The way Ings is playing, you think when Benteke comes back it will be difficult for Brendan Rodgers to get him in the team
And Ings has scored two goals in six appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit, teaming up impressively with Daniel Sturridge for their 3-2 win against Aston Villa at the weekend.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher reckons Ings could keep Benteke out of Brendan Rodgers’s side if the 23-year-old can maintain his current level of performances.
“Sturridge’s finishing deserves the accolades but a lot of it comes from Ings,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He has made a massive difference. He is pressing people, running behind, making the game quicker, and that’s where the chances are coming from.
“The way Ings is playing, you think when Benteke comes back it will be difficult for Brendan Rodgers to get him in the team.”
Ings moved to Liverpool from Burnley on a free transfer in the summer window.
The summer signing scored a respectable 11 goals in 35 Premier League games for Sean Dyche’s outfit last season, although he couldn’t fire Burnley to safety.
Ings has netted four times in 13 appearances for England’s Under-21 side.
