Jamie Carragher runs rule over Man United signing Anthony Martial

Jamie Carragher says it is too early to judge Man United signing Anthony Martial

Jamie Carragher says it is too early to judge Manchester United signing Anthony Martial.

The 19-year-old France international has made two appearances for the Red Devils since his £36m move to Old Trafford from Ligue 1 side Monaco on transfer deadline day.

Martial scored on his Premier League debut last weekend as the United signing sealed three points in a 3-1 victory over Carragher’s former side Liverpool at Old Trafford.

However, the retired Reds defender believes Van Gaal is right to use the teenager sparingly at the start of his United career despite his impressive debut against Liverpool.

“He made a fantastic start to his Old Trafford career with that goal but it’s difficult to judge a player so quickly,” Carrager told Sky Sports.

“It’s very early days and I think Louis van Gaal was right to say he won’t play all the games and will be coming in and out of the team.

“He played as the central striker against PSV and did ok but he’s a player as much for now as for the future.”

Martial became Europe’s most-expensive teenager following his big-money move to United from Monaco earlier this month.

The former Lyon man scored 11 goals in 52 Ligue 1 appearances before his switch to the Premier League.
