Jamie Carragher: Why Liverpool shouldn’t sack Brendan Rodgers
The former Liverpool defender says the Northern Irishman needs to be given more time
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool must give Brendan Rodgers time to get the best out of his summer signings.
The Northern Irishman spent over £70m on new players in the summer transfer window in a bid to close the gap on the Premier League’s top four after a disappointing sixth-place finish last term.
Rodgers made Christian Benteke the club’s second most-expensive signing following his £32.5m move, whilst Roberto Firmino joined in a £29m deal from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.
However, Liverpool are in 13th place after a return of eight points from a possible 18 after six games of the season, prompting some fans to urge the Reds to sack the 43-year-old.
But Carragher, who played under Rodgers for one season, explained why he felt his former manager deserved more time to improve Liverpool despite a poor start.
I agree but if you keep BR in the summer & give him 70 mil to spend on 7 players you can't change after 6/7 games. https://t.co/UisNhRhR2q

Liverpool have failed to win any of their last five games in all competitions.
The Reds face struggling Aston Villa in their next home game at Anfield next Saturday.
