Jose Mourinho: Chelsea star Diego Costa was man of the match
The Chelsea manager refuses to discuss Gabriel Paulista's sending off
Jose Mourinho has named Chelsea striker Diego Costa his man of the match after a 2-0 victory over nine-man Arsenal.
The Spain international clashed with Laurent Koscielny before he became embroiled in a disagreement with Gabriel Paulista in the first half at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal’s Brazil centre-half received his marching orders during the incident after he back heeled Costa off the ball, before Santi Cazorla was later dismissed for a second yellow.
Kurt Zouma broke the deadlock after half-time before Calum Chambers deflected Eden Hazard’s strike past Petr Cech, and Chelsea manager Mourinho was quick to heap praise on Costa.
“I don’t have a view on the sending off. Man of the match for sure was Diego Costa. He brought everything to the game,” Mourinho told BBC Sport.
On Chelsea’s victory, Mourinho added: “Good victory, we need to win matches. We won twice in three days, we kept two clean sheets. We controlled the matches.”
Costa was replaced in the final 10 minutes for Loic Remy after yet another clash with Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a return to form over the past week after he scored a goal and created an assist in a 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Champions League.
