Mourinho delivers latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Arsenal clash
Jose Mourinho says Willian and Pedro Rodriguez are doubts for Chelsea clash with Arsenal on Saturday
Jose Mourinho has revealed Pedro Rodriguez and Willian are injury doubts for the visit of Arsenal on Saturday after Chelsea eased to victory over Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Champions League.
Eden Hazard got Chelsea off to a nervous start when he missed an early penalty before Willian eased the concerns of Blues fans with a superb free-kick to break the deadlock.
Oscar added a second from the spot on the stroke of half-time, with Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas wrapping up the west London side’s first opening Champions League group-stage win since 2012.
However, there was some bad news for Mourinho after Costa replaced Willian in the 23rd minute at Stamford Bridge, and the Chelsea manager revealed that the Brazil international had suffered a muscular injury.
“Willian is out for sure,” Mourinho told his post-match news conference. “It is a muscular injury.”
Pedro Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao weren’t named in Chelsea’s match-day squad for the visit of the Israeli champions.
And Mourinho added that the £21m summer signing is a doubt for their London derby against Arsene Wenger’s on Saturday lunchtime.
Mourinho added: “I think Pedro is out for sure.”
