Juan Mata backs Man United star David De Gea to get over Madrid blow
Manchester United winger Juan Mata is backing David De Gea to bounce back after his collapsed Real Madrid move
Juan Mata is backing Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to respond after his collapsed move to Real Madrid.
The Spain international was denied a move to The Bernabeu after Madrid allegedly failed to send the appropriate documents to the Spanish Football Federation before La Liga’s 23:00 BST deadline on Monday night.
De Gea hasn’t played a game for the Red Devils this season after Louis van Gaal deemed the 24-year-old to be in an unfit mental state and selected new signing Sergio Romero in goal.
But United midfielder Mata, who moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea in the club’s second-most expensive transfer deal, is confident De Gea will bounce back in a professional manner.
“He is my friend and I wish the best for him but I am sure he is going to manage the situation very well because he has always done it,” Mata is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“We have two very important games to try to win to be first in the group. Obviously he is going to be very professional.
“I think he is quite focused now on the national team and that is it. He will manage the situation because he has always been very professional and he will always be.”
De Gea has less than 12 months remaining on his current Red Devils contract meaning the goalkeeper could join Los Blancos on a free transfer next summer.
The United shot stopper was named the players’s and fans’s player of the year after his outstanding performances last season.
