Juan Mata: David De Gea will be very good for Man United this season

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says Spain goalkeeper David De Gea is still loved by Red Devils supporters

Juan Mata has assured Manchester United supporters that David De Gea will be very good for the Red Devils this season.

According to BBC Sport, Real Madrid and United failed to get the necessary documentation to the Spanish Football Federation before the 23:00 BST La Liga deadline.

The Red Devils were reported to have agreed a £29m fee with the 10-time European champions, with Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas set to join United as part of the deal.

Spain international Mata believes the club’s two-time players’s player of the year De Gea is still loved by United supporters despite the transfer saga surrounding his future.

“I’ve talked with him a lot. There have been hectic and stressful days but he is such a quiet, centred person, nothing changes,” Mata is quoted as saying by Daily Express.

“The last two years David has been the best player in our team. His saves have earned us a lot of points. I have no doubt this will be a very good year, too. I don’t think there’ll be a problem with the club, the coach or the fans. That’s what I perceive.

“The fans love him very much, he’s highly regarded by the club and the coach.”

United manager Louis van Gaal has omitted De Gea from his first five match-day squads of the season, starting summer signing Sergio Romero in goal.
